Not exactly. Both treatments use ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen and lift the skin, but Sofwave is an improved technology that uses Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam (SUPERB™) technology to treat the mid-dermis more efficiently, with less discomfort and no downtime. Many patients report a more comfortable experience and more consistent results with Sofwave.

Ultherapy is the only non-invasive treatment cleared by the FDA for lifting the skin on the neck, chin, and brow, and improving lines and wrinkles on the décolletage. It stimulates the production of new collagen using three different transducers with different depths of stimulation.

Ultherapy can cause some discomfort, and the pain level varies among patients. On a pain scale of 1 through 10, many patients rate the pain around 4-6. The sensation is often described as “prickling or heating feeling”.

Ultherapy targets areas beneath the skin, delivering focused ultrasound energy at just the right depth while leaving the surface of your skin undisturbed. This energy triggers a natural response under the skin, stimulating the production of fresh, new collagen.

Ultherapy is FDA-cleared to stimulate collagen production in the face, eyebrows, neck, under the chin, and decolletage.

The length of an Ultherapy treatment will depend on the area and your treatment plan.

Discomfort may be experienced during the procedure while energy deposit is taking place. Post procedure discomfort typically resolves within 2 days. Tenderness to the touch is also possible and typically resolves within 2 days to 2 weeks of treatment.

As the ultrasound energy is delivered, you might feel tiny amounts of energy being deposited, indicating that the collagen-building process has been initiated. Comfort levels can vary from person to person, but the sensation only lasts while the energy is being delivered.

You may see some initial effects, but the ultimate lifting and tightening occurs over the next few months as new collagen production is formed.

The skin might appear flushed at first, but the redness should disappear within a few hours. Some patients may experience slight swelling, tingling, bruising, or tenderness to the touch, but these are mild and temporary.
